Rock Museum

We recently visited the Crater Rock Museum in Central Point, Oregon.

Avery having a dutch bros being silly on our way.

Beautiful exhibits. Very kid/family friendly place. We all had a great time.

The girls went out in the rock field and picked a rock

Avery made her own diner when we got home later.

Tooth Fairy Visit

Avery recently lost her first tooth! It was a very exciting. She immediately cleaned and polished the tooth and put it under her pillow. Then went to bed in anticipation for the tooth fairy's first visit. I knew I wanted to do something special for the first tooth so I got to work right away.

I used some crafting supplies I already had on hand. I made her a fancy card from the tooth fairy with $2 of various coins in an envelope. We've been studying different types of money so she just loved that.

I decided to use pipe cleaners to make her a crown and wand.

She woke up giggling and happy the next morning. Avery had such a fun day. She loved it.

Farm Festival

This past Saturday we went to a farm and pioneer festival at Historic HanleyFarm in Central Point, Oregon. It was a beautiful sunny day and the whole family had a great time.

We started off with candle making first and made the perfect candle for Avery's 5th Birthday

Next was off to the wheat grinding/sifting station. Avery loved turning the crank. Then we made dough and they had volunteers grilling it up pita style with cinnamon and butter to top it.

They had a laundry station showing all of the work and skill it took to wash clothes in pioneer days. This was Avery's favorite activity.

My favorite activity was watching the girls sit on the saddles and try and lasso some bull horns. It was hilarious.

Kelly's favorite activity by far was the "milking station". She is a natural milkmaid.

she loved to"cluck" at chickens and "oh bah-bays" and the new goats

We had such a fun experience on the farm learning new pioneer skills and stepping back in time. They had other activities like horse shoes, butter making, good local food, volunteers in period clothing, and amazing fiddle players. I didn't get much of a chance to check out the historic farmhouse on the property but look forward to visiting Hanley Farm again.

Memorial Day/Summertime

Memorial Day was a few days ago and the Coens had a good weekend. We started the weekend off on Saturday morning at a festival in tiny Prospect, Oregon to remember the troops that have fought and died for our country. They had cute little old couples on tractors in the parade and Smokey the Bear made an appearance.

We went the next day to Fish Lake, Oregon and rented a little dingy boat and went fishing. Didn't catch anything but a bad sunburn but we had a lot of fun all the same. This summer is going to be a lot of BBQing and swimming and fishing and I can't wait to have my hubby home the whole summer.

First Post.

I wanted to start this blog to keep a record of my life. I'm a wife and mother of two little girls. I have a lot of goals and things I'm passionate about, and a lot of new things I want to try. This is my story. My journey. I hope to grow throughout this process and use this as an outlet to work through issues I have in my life. I  want my family to have good values and simplify our lives...bringing us back to basics.

More of an introduction to come but for now my name is Amanda Coen and I'm 25  years old living in Oregon  with my  loving husband and two amazing daughters.
